01/ Role listings

Explore advertised roles.

Listings show the source and when they were checked. Follow the source listing for current availability and application details.

Use this page for director of membership roles. The membership jobs board covers the wider sector. A role guide helps you assess a vacancy; it does not establish that a particular employer is currently hiring.

02/ Read the remit

Look beyond the job title.

Director of membership and membership director titles can cover different portfolios. Read whether the remit includes marketing, education, events, commercial partnerships or governance. Establish whether the role sits on the executive team, advises it or reports through another director.

The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases’ own director of member experience specification connects membership strategy with revenue goals, budgets, governance processes and cross-functional delivery. This US association example illustrates a director-level remit; it is not a universal qualification or salary benchmark.

03/ Make your experience clear

Show the decisions behind your experience.

Build a concise account of the decisions you have owned. Explain the starting position, alternatives considered, approval route, resources and review. Where outcomes depended on external conditions or colleagues, make that visible rather than claiming sole credit.

Use the employer’s person specification to structure your application. Keep member information and confidential employer data out of work samples. A fictional or anonymised example can explain your approach without sharing private records.

The membership manager job description explains how employers define scope. Use it to interrogate a brief, alongside the actual advert; it is not an employer’s selection criteria.

Application preparation · 0/5 in place

Review the remaining preparation.

04/ Test the fit

Ask what success requires.

Use the interview to understand the conditions for doing the work. Ask for the starting position, the support available and which decisions you would control. The questions below are original preparation prompts, not a prescribed assessment.

Prepare answers as well as questions. The membership manager interview guide provides an employer-side view of evidence and assessment; adapt it to the seniority and responsibilities of the vacancy.

Questions for the hiring team

  • What is the board’s mandate for membership over the planning period?
  • Which income, proposition and service decisions can the director approve?
  • What portfolio and direct reports come with the role?
  • Which decisions need member, committee or board approval?

05/ Choose your next step

Compare scope before applying.

Check the source advert for location, working pattern, contract type, salary, closing date and application route. Remuneration belongs to the individual vacancy; this guide does not supply a sector salary benchmark.

If a listing is unavailable or has closed, use the wider membership jobs board to review other roles. If you are hiring rather than applying, start with recruitment for membership organisations.
