01/ Role listings

Explore advertised roles.

Listings show the source and when they were checked. Follow the source listing for current availability and application details.

Use this page for membership manager roles. The membership jobs board covers the wider sector. A role guide helps you assess a vacancy; it does not establish that a particular employer is currently hiring.

02/ Read the remit

Look beyond the job title.

Membership manager roles can lean towards operations, development or member experience. Read the responsibilities before judging the title. Check whether you will manage staff, own a campaign budget or coordinate colleagues who report elsewhere.

The Association of Illustrators’ own role description combines team leadership, hands-on member service, membership income, reporting and delivery of its membership strategy. This is one employer’s example, rather than a standard specification for every manager.

AreaWork to assessEvidence to prepare
Member serviceResolve enquiries and improve recurring service problemsA service issue you investigated and the change you made
Joining and renewalCoordinate applications, onboarding and renewal activityA handover or process you made clearer

03/ Make your experience clear

Show the decisions behind your experience.

Choose examples that show reliable delivery and judgement. Explain the situation, your own contribution, the people involved and what changed. If you report a result, state the period and measure; distinguish your own work from the wider team’s outcome.

Use the employer’s person specification to structure your application. Keep member information and confidential employer data out of work samples. A fictional or anonymised example can explain your approach without sharing private records.

The membership manager job description explains how employers define scope. Use it to interrogate a brief, alongside the actual advert; it is not an employer’s selection criteria.

Application preparation · 0/5 in place

Review the remaining preparation.

04/ Test the fit

Ask what success requires.

Use the interview to understand the conditions for doing the work. Ask for the starting position, the support available and which decisions you would control. The questions below are original preparation prompts, not a prescribed assessment.

Prepare answers as well as questions. The membership manager interview guide provides an employer-side view of evidence and assessment; adapt it to the seniority and responsibilities of the vacancy.

Questions for the hiring team

  • Who owns eligibility decisions and complex member enquiries?
  • Which membership processes most need improvement?
  • What support is available from finance, marketing and systems colleagues?
  • Does this role manage people, a budget or both?

05/ Choose your next step

Compare scope before applying.

Check the source advert for location, working pattern, contract type, salary, closing date and application route. Remuneration belongs to the individual vacancy; this guide does not supply a sector salary benchmark.

If a listing is unavailable or has closed, use the wider membership jobs board to review other roles. If you are hiring rather than applying, start with recruitment for membership organisations.
