02/ Read the remit
Look beyond the job title.
A membership executive brief may combine relationship support, member communications, campaigns, events and administration. Executive does not automatically mean executive leadership. Titles differ between organisations: use the actual specification to establish seniority, decision rights and whether the emphasis is service, development or account support.
The Association for Specialist Fire Protection’s own membership executive description combines customer service, relationship management, administration and business development. The British Chambers of Commerce’s January 2026 role pack also describes account support, events, communications and engagement work. These are employer examples, not a single standard specification or a claim that those vacancies remain open.
03/ Make your experience clear
Show the decisions behind your experience.
Show how you turn a conversation into useful action. Prepare examples of understanding a customer or member need, coordinating colleagues and following through. For campaign or event work, distinguish activity from outcome: sending a message is different from a person taking the intended next step.
Use the employer’s person specification to structure your application. Keep member information and confidential employer data out of work samples. A fictional or anonymised example can explain your approach without sharing private records.
The membership manager job description explains how employers define scope. Use it to interrogate a brief, alongside the actual advert; it is not an employer’s selection criteria.
Application preparation · 0/5 in place
Review the remaining preparation.
04/ Test the fit
Ask what success requires.
Use the interview to understand the conditions for doing the work. Ask for the starting position, the support available and which decisions you would control. The questions below are original preparation prompts, not a prescribed assessment.
Prepare answers as well as questions. The membership manager interview guide provides an employer-side view of evidence and assessment; adapt it to the seniority and responsibilities of the vacancy.
Questions for the hiring team
- Does this role own member accounts or support an account manager?
- How much time is allocated to campaigns, events and administration?
- How are member needs and follow-up actions recorded?
- What would successful engagement look like in this organisation?
05/ Choose your next step
Compare scope before applying.
Check the source advert for location, working pattern, contract type, salary, closing date and application route. Remuneration belongs to the individual vacancy; this guide does not supply a sector salary benchmark.
If a listing is unavailable or has closed, use the wider membership jobs board to review other roles. If you are hiring rather than applying, start with recruitment for membership organisations.

Every claim, and where it came from
Original employer specifications illustrate role scope. They are not salary benchmarks, current-vacancy endorsements or evidence of Quest placements. Application checklists are our own guidance.
